The Hopkins Race and Equity Initiative (HREI) was recognized by the Humphrey School of Public Affairs with a Local Government Innovation Award in 2018, which came with a $5,000 grant to expand the initiative’s work.
HREI, a collaborative effort between the City of Hopkins, the Hopkins Police Department, Hopkins Public Schools and Gethsemane Lutheran Church, creates opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of race, equity and diversity, while promoting a sense of community that welcomes and values all residents.
Captain Erik Husevold was recognized in 2018 by the International Association of Chief’s of Police for his leadership and dedication to the profession. Captain Husevold has been instrumental in many of the department’s community outreach initiatives and works diligently to improve community and police relations.
In 2018, Mothers Against Drunk Driving recognized Officer Lucas Wilcox for his proactive impaired driving efforts. Officer Wilcox removed over 100 impaired drivers from City roadways in the last year, making the community a much safer place.
