The Hopkins Police Department understands the importance of establishing relationships within the community. The department also recognizes the importance of reaching out to youth in our community and creating positive social interactions with law enforcement in an effort to prevent and deter crime.
To help form these relationships, the Hopkins Police Department partners with local businesses on different events throughout the year, such as Cops N Kids Fishing in June and Cops N Kids Shopping in December.
Cops N Kids Shopping is a program to help make the holidays a bit brighter. It offers teens the opportunity to experience the joy of giving as well as creates valuable relationships between police, youth and their families.
Youth are nominated by the community based on their positive performance in school, their commitment to the community and unique needs.
The participants are transported to a local retailer where they are given a gift card to purchase gifts for their family.
This program is sponsored in partnership with Hopkins JCI.
Submit a nomination. Nominations are due by Wednesday, November 22, at 8 a.m.
Keep an eye out here for information on the 2024 Cops N Kids Fishing event.
Cops N Kids Fishing is a mentoring program for elementary age children, who are identified by community members, as needing an additional opportunity for a positive role model experience.
Working in partnership with local school districts and teachers, as well as donations from our residents and businesses, we are able to educate our youth in the importance of respecting our natural resources and encourage them to enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities. At the same time, we are creating and fostering positive relationships with the police. This positive mentorship creates life long memories and builds trust.
