In September 2011, the City of Hopkins officially formed a sister city relationship with Boryspil, Ukraine. Boryspil lies just outside Kyiv and is home to Kyiv International Airport.
The city of Boryspil and the City of Hopkins have committed to continue building strong relationships between the two communities.
The City held a Sister City Celebration at the Hopkins Center for the Arts on September 27, 2011 when a delegation from Boryspil visited Hopkins.
In May 2011, Hopkins then Mayor Gene Maxwell visited Boryspil as part of a civic-cultural exchange program.
One of the outcomes of the Sister City relationship was the visit of 17 students and 3 adult chaperones to Hopkins in the fall of 2012.
The students attended Hopkins Public Schools, participated in civic leadership development opportunities, and shared their perspectives, hopes, and challenges with Minnesota youth.
