Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off is May 10-11

Drop-off your household hazardous waste and materials at the Hennepin County collection event in Minnetonka on May 10–11. Bring items to the Minnetonka Public
Works parking lot (11522 Minnetonka Blvd.) between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the collection period. For more information, additional drop-off dates and a list of items that are accepted is available here.


Trail Closures Scheduled to Begin May 13

The Cedar Lake Trail and Kenilworth Trail are scheduled to close for light rail construction on Monday, May 13, and will be closed for two to three years. Detour signage will notify trail users of alternative routes, which have been designed in coordination with members of the biking community and project partners.

Cedar Lake Trail: 2 Year Closure Through Hopkins and St. Louis Park

  • The portion of the Cedar Lake Trail that is closing starts just east of the North Cedar Lake Trail connection in Hopkins to France Ave in St. Louis Park. (The closure begins in Hopkins in front of the Excelsior Commons Corporate Campus across Excelsior Boulevard from the Depot Coffee House)
  • At this time, automobiles, bikes and pedestrians will continue to cross at Jackson Street, Blake Road, Louisiana Avenue, Wooddale Avenue, TH-100 and Beltline Boulevard.
  • Cedar Lake Trail will remain open between France Ave in St. Louis Park and Kenilworth Trail/Midtown Greenway intersection in Minneapolis.
Kenilworth Trail: 3 Year Closure in Minneapolis
  • The portion of the Kenilworth Trail that is closing starts at the intersection with the Midtown Greenway and extends northeast to just south of W 21st Street.
  • At this time, automobiles, bikes and pedestrians will continue to cross at Cedar Lake Parkway and at W 21st Street.
  • Kenilworth Trail access will remain open between W 21st Street and the North Cedar Lake Trail, even though construction activities may commence in this area and trail access will be modified.

Mainstreet Day is May 18

Mainstreet Day Arts and Craft Fair, sponsored by JCI Hopkins, will be held on Saturday, May 18. The event is open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm. There will be entertainment for the entire family that includes train rides, a balloon twister, live music and more. Learn more about Mainstreet Day here.


Kick-Off to Summer Safety is May 18

The annual Kick-Off to Summer Safety event sponsored by the Hopkins Police and Fire Departments in partnership with Hopkins/Minnetonka Park & Recreation and Minnesota Safe Kids Coalition will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a .m. to 1 p.m., at the Hopkins Fire Station, 101 17th Avenue S. This free, family-friendly event will feature water, bike, fire and internet safety tips, ice cream and prize giveaways, including bikes, locks, helmets, life jackets, car seats and more. Residents can also make an appointment to have child seats installed and inspected. Nomination Deadline for Cops N Kids Fishing is May 19

Do you know a Hopkins resident or student between the ages of 8 and 10 who would benefit from police mentorship? The Hopkins Police Department is now accepting nominations for Cops N Kids Fishing coming up on Tuesday, June 18. All nominations are due by Sunday, May 19. Submit a nomination form here.
