Organics Recycling Collection Buckets and BPI-Certified Bags Available at Public Works

Are you an organics recycling customer and need an indoor collection bucket or compostable bags for your organics? Hopkins Public Works has a variety of collection buckets available to residents at no cost, and a limited number of BPI-certified bags for sale. The price for a roll of 25 two gallon bags is $3, $4 for 20 13 gallon bags and $5.50 for 10 32 gallon bags. Charges will be applied to utility bills. Both collection buckets and bags must be picked-up in-person at Public Works, 11100 Excelsior Boulevard.

Organics Recycling Tip:

To reduce or prevent odor, insect and/or animal issues with your organics recycling collection, collect your “wet” organics separately from your “dry” organics. “Wet” organics are things like fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds or meat. “Dry” organics are things like Kleenex, paper towels, Q-Tips, etc. Keep your wet organics in a container that can go in your refrigerator or freezer until your collection day. Then take it out, empty the bucket into a BPI-certified or paper bag, and drop it in your cart for collection. Generally speaking, “dry” organics are not the items that attract pests and can be collected in a BPI-certified or paper bag immediately without starting to disintegrate the bag.
