Hopkins Community Health and Resource Fair is September 17

Hopkins Community Education is hosting a Community Health and Resource Fair on Saturday, September 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Eisenhower Community Center, to help residents and community members find resources and opportunities in Hopkins and surrounding communities. Resources include behavioral health services; college and career pathways; elderly nutrition services; employment resources; engagement services; English adult education; enrichment classes for youth and adults; fire prevention; food resources; GED or high school equivalency for adults; housing stability; and SNAP/CASH/MA application assistance. The fair is free and open to the public. 


Free Brush Pick-Up is Week of September 19

The City will be picking up brush free of charge for residential garbage customers the same day as your garbage day the week of September 19. No call-in is required for the free pick-up. Learn more about brush pick-up requirements on the City website.


Bulk Item Drop-Off Event is September 23-24

Broken grill taking up space in the garage? Old microwave in the basement you need to toss? The fall bulk drop-off event for City of Hopkins residential garbage customers is Friday, September 23, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. For $20, plus taxes, you can drop off one appliance and up to three cubic yards worth of trash (the equivalent of one pick-up truck load). Additional appliances are $20, plus taxes, each. Community Chili Cook-Off is September 24

Who makes the best chili in town? The cities of Hopkins and Minnetonka police, fire and recreation departments will go head-to-head in a Community Chili Cook-off to benefit the ICA Food Shelf on Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Faith Church in Minnetonka, 12007 Excelsior Boulevard. For $5, taste the chili of all five teams and cast a ballot for your favorite. The event will also feature live music, games, police squad and fire truck displays, and more. Donations of non-perishable food, cash or other ICA-need items are also requested. All proceeds will benefit the ICA food shelf.

Tuesday, September 13, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Learn about ways to position your estate plan to best protect everything you have worked hard for over the years. Activity fee: $3, members: free.

Lunch & Learn: Hopkins Park System Master Plan
Thursday, September 15, 11 a.m. to noon

Hopkins is in the process of developing a Park System Master Plan and they want your input! Join the Activity Center to discuss the current needs of our parks and dream about the wants for the future. A boxed lunch will be served. Activity fee: $10, members: $8. Deadline for registration and meal selection is Monday, September 12 at noon. 


Financial Resources Series: Investment Strategies for Retirement
Tuesday, September 27, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Like the rest of life, retirement doesn't come with guarantees. But a sound investment strategy is an excellent start toward helping you pursue your retirement goals. Activity fee: $3, members: free.


Defensive Driving Class 
Tuesday, September 20, 2 to 6 p.m.

Taught by an instructor from the Minnesota Safety Council, this Defensive Driving Class is for drivers over age 55. Participants upon completion of the class can qualify for a 10 percent, three-year auto insurance discount. Activity fee: $28, members: $25. Advanced registration is required.
