May is National Bike Month

Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of
bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try. Mark your calendar for these great Bike Month events and participate if you can!

  • May 1-31: Bike Month Scavenger Hunt
  • May 4: Hopkins Activity Center Senior Bike Club Talk & Ride, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Maetzold Field
  • May 14: Garden Kick-Off Event, 9 to 11 a.m., Valley Park Community Gardens, $10 bike helmet sales
  • May 20: Bike to Work Day Energizer Stations, 7:30 – 9:30 a.m., Minnetonka (LRT Trail/Williston Overflow Lot), Hopkins (Maetzold Park Trail)
  • May 21: Hopkins Police Department Summer Safety Open House, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Hopkins City Hall, FREE bike tunes ups, bike safety demos, $10 helmet sales.

Step To It Challenge Begins May 1

Get out of your house and get moving after a long Minnesota winter by participating in the 2022 Step To It Challenge. Over 20 communities will compete to win prizes and be honored by Hennepin County. Learn more about the challenge and register to participate.


Board and Commission Application Deadline is May 1

Interested in serving your community? The City is currently seeking applicants for
openings on the Charter Commission, Park Board and Planning and Zoning Commission. Find recruitment information and apply online. The deadline to apply is Sunday, May 1.

Spring Bulk Item Drop-Off Event is May 6 and 7

Looking to get rid of bulky items that are just taking up space in your home or garage? Bring your items to the bulk item drop-off Friday, May 6, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
For a $20 fee, plus taxes, you can drop off one appliance and up to three cubic yards worth of trash (the equivalent of one pick-up truck load). Payment will be processed by card at the event. Debit cards, MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover are all accepted. Find more information about the drop-off event. 



Hennepin County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event is May 6 and 7

Drop-off your household hazardous waste at the Hennepin County collection event on Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7. Bring your items to Minnetonka Public Works (11522 Minnetonka Boulevard) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. either day. Find more information, additional drop-off dates and a list of items that are accepted on the Hennepin County website. 


Garden plot Kick-Off Event is May 14

Start gardening season off on the right foot! Come meet your neighbors for a Community Garden Kick-off event at the Valley Park Garden Plots in Hopkins on Saturday, May 14, from 9 to 11 a.m. (weather permitting). Community partners attending the event include Hennepin County Master Gardeners, the Hopkins Fire and Police Departments, the Hopkins School District/Hopkins Community Education, and the ICA Food Shelf. The event is open to everyone, no registration required.
