Kick-Off to Summer Safety is May 18

The annual Kick-Off to Summer Safety event sponsored by the Hopkins Police and Fire Departments in partnership with Hopkins/Minnetonka Park & Recreation and Minnesota Safe Kids Coalition will be held Saturday, May 18, from 10 a .m. to 1 p.m., at the Hopkins Fire Station, 101 17th Avenue S. This free, family-friendly event will feature water, bike, fire and internet safety tips, ice cream and prize giveaways, including bikes, locks, helmets, life jackets, car seats and more. Residents can also make an appointment to have child seats installed and inspected. Mainstreet Day is May 18

Mainstreet Day Arts and Craft Fair, sponsored by JCI Hopkins, will be held on Saturday, May 18. The event is open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm. There will be entertainment for the entire family that includes train rides, a balloon twister, live music and more. Learn more about Mainstreet Day here.


Burnes Park Splash Pad Scheduled to Open May 25

The splash pad at Burnes Park is scheduled to open for the season on Saturday, May 25, weather permitting. Splash pad hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 9 p.m. There is no cost to residents or visitors to use the splash pad. Burnes Park is located at 301 2nd Street N. 


Reminder: Sign-Up for Light Rail Construction Updates

Construction has begun on the Southwest Light Rail Project, which will operate on a route from downtown Minneapolis through the communities of St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Eden Prairie. 

A full closure of Excelsior Boulevard at the intersection of Jackson Avenue N and Milwaukee Street is scheduled for late May with two, two-week closures (approximately 28 days total). A full closure of Blake Road at the Cedar Lake Trail and freight rail crossing is scheduled for June and will last up to two weeks. Exact dates and advanced detour signage will be posted approximately seven days prior to the closures.
