Free Holiday Tree Pick-Up is Week of January 12

Holiday trees will be picked up curbside, free of charge for Hopkins residential garbage customers the week of January 12. Trees will be picked up on your garbage day, subject to change due to the weather. Lay trees in the boulevard, parallel with the street, and at least five feet from overhead wires, trees, fences, garbage carts and parked cars. Trees must be free of all ornaments, plastic bags and metal. You do not need to call to schedule this service.

Save the Date: State of the City is January 29

The 2026 State of the City returns to the Hopkins Center for the Arts on Thursday, January 29. A reception will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., followed by a presentation in the theater. The State of the City event offers community members and business owners the opportunity to learn more about the workings of the City in a relaxed setting. Keep an eye out for more information in the coming weeks.

Finance-Related Changes Now in Effect

Credit Card Fees

Effective January 2, the City will no longer absorb credit card transaction fees. Starting on this date, all credit and debit card payments will include an additional 3.15% fee to cover the cost of processing these payments and help the City maintain its budget.

To avoid this fee, payments can still be made by cash or check. However, please note that cash and check payments must be completed before any recurring or auto-draft payment plans are processed.

Quarterly Billing

In 2026, the City will transition to quarterly utility bills. The last monthly bill will be sent out the week of January 1. Utility customers will receive their first quarterly bill in April for services rendered in January, February and March.

Small Business Grants Program

Main Street America and Amex are offering the Shop Small Grants Program. Eligible small business owners across the U.S. can apply for $20,000 grants. Applications are accepted until Friday, January 16. Learn more online.
