Bulk Item Drop-Off Event is September 23-24

The fall bulk drop-off event for City of Hopkins residential garbage customers is today, September 23, from 3 to 7 p.m., and Saturday, September 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. For $20, plus taxes, you can drop off one appliance and up to three cubic yards worth of trash (the equivalent of one pick-up truck load). Additional appliances are $20, plus taxes, each. Find more information about the drop-off event.


Community Chili Cook-Off is September 24

Who makes the best chili in town? The cities of Hopkins and Minnetonka police, fire and recreation departments will go head-to-head in a Community Chili Cook-off to benefit the ICA Food Shelf on Saturday, September 24, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Faith Church in Minnetonka, 12007 Excelsior Boulevard. For $5, taste the chili of all five teams and cast a ballot for your favorite. The event will also feature live music, games, police squad and fire truck displays, and more. Donations of non-perishable food, cash or other ICA-need items are also requested. All proceeds will benefit the ICA food shelf. 


Climate Resiliency Conversation and Community Meal is September 28

The City, along with consultants LHB and Local Climate Solutions, is hosting a free community meal at Sambusa King on Wednesday, September 28, at 5 p.m., to talk with residents about heat resilience and climate change. There will be free food, kids activities and a bike giveaway. Translation services will be provided.


Deadline to Submit Name Suggestions for Park Valley Playground is September 30

The Hopkins City Council and Park Board are looking for suggestions to rename Park Valley Playground, located in South Hopkins, as part of the City’s Park System Master Plan. Add your suggestion and give feedback on the Park System Master Plan website by Friday, September 30. 


Hopkins Historical Society Fundraiser is October 1

The Hopkins Historical Society will host Historic Happy Hour, a fundraiser and awards ceremony to celebrate 50 years on Saturday, October 1, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Hopkins Activity Center. The Historic Happy Hour event will feature a silent auction of items from local businesses, an opportunity to visit the organizations newly refreshed museum space, and an awards ceremony. Appetizers and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. Tickets are $40 for an individual ticket or $75 a pair, available at the Hopkins Historical Society website.
