Connections - A Weekly Update from the City of Hopkins

Online Survey on Watershed District's Stormwater and Greenway Project Open Through February 16

The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) hosted a virtual public meeting on January 24, to present updated designs for its stormwater and Greenway project at 325 Blake Road. If you were unable to attend that meeting but would still like provide input on project components like water access, seating, educational signs and bike facilities, an online survey is open through February 16. The survey is also available in Somali. Slides and full recordings of the meeting are available in English and Somali on the Watershed District’s project website. Input from the virtual meeting and survey will help refine these designs for consideration by the MCWD Board later this winter.

Southwest Light Rail Service Opening Delayed to 2027

The Metropolitan Council announced last week that Southwest Light Rail Transit (SWLRT) METRO Green Line Extension is now slated to open for passenger service in 2027. The 14.5 mile light rail project connecting Eden Prairie, Minnetonka, Hopkins, St. Louis Park and Minneapolis was originally scheduled to open to riders in 2023. Hopkins has three stations on the line.

Elements added to the project's construction phase contributing to the service delay include the construction of a barrier protection wall between railroad and LRT tracks, and a change in construction methods on the Kenilworth Tunnel, both in Minneapolis, and the addition of the construction of the Eden Prairie Town Center station.

The Southwest Light Rail METRO Green Line Extension is a project overseen by the Metropolitan Council. Contact Community Outreach Coordinator Nkongo Cigolo with questions.

Learn more about the delay in a news article on the Metropolitan Council website.
