Registration for Step to it Challenge Begins April 1 

Do you want a fun and easy way to kick start a springtime exercise program after being cooped up at home? Sign-up for the four-week Step to it Challenge from May 1–28 and get moving again after a cold winter. Over 20 communities will compete to see which one has the most active residents. Participants have a chance to win Twins Tickets for the 2020 season. Learn more about the Step to it Challenge and register here. 


Yard Waste and Brush Drop-Off Site Opens April 4

The free brush and yard waste drop-off site will open for the season on Saturday, April 4. Hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Only brush and yard waste generated by Hopkins residential garbage customers will be accepted. Driver’s licenses will be checked to verify eligibility. More information about the drop-off site is available here.


Governor Issues "Stay Home" Executive Order 

On March 25, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued a "Stay Home" executive order, effective beginning today, March 27, at 11:59 p.m., through Friday, April 10. The executive order limits movement outside the home beyond essential needs. Essential needs include health and safety activities; outdoor activities; necessary supplies and services; essential and interstate travel; care of others; displacement; and relocation to ensure safety. 

Residents who must leave home should continue to practice physical (social) distancing. Find more information on the governor's website here.


Respond to the 2020 Census Today!

Looking to fill some time while stuck at home? Respond to the 2020 Census! Invitations from the U.S. Census Bureau were mailed the past two weeks with a unique 12-digit census code for each household. The code is necessary to complete the questionnaire, which should only take about 10 minutes.The results of the census will shape political representation, funding of government programs, the flow of business and commerce, and the planning and delivery of services to Hopkins. Hydrant Flushing Delayed One Week

Hydrant flushing originally scheduled for April 6-24 has been delayed one week. 

Updated hydrant flushing schedule:

  • April 13-17: Hydrants north of Excelsior Boulevard and west of Highway 169
  • April 20-24: Hydrants south of Excelsior Boulevard and west of Highway 169
  • April 27-May 1: Hydrants east of Highway 169

Residents are cautioned against doing laundry - particularly light colored items - while crews are in the neighborhood. If water is still discolored once crews leave, residents should run the cold water until it runs clear. More information is available here.
