During winter, it's up to the business people and residents of Hopkins to remove snow and ice from public sidewalks. Even a small snow fall (less than two inches) can pose a safety hazard for people trying to walk on the sidewalks.

Hopkins City Code 820.03 requires an owner and/or occupant of any property with a public sidewalk to remove snow and ice within 12 hours after a snow fall. This is necessary to ensure the safety of people using the sidewalks. This ordinance will be enforced.

If snow and ice isn't cleared within 24 hours, City workers will remove it and you will be billed accordingly:

  • Businesses
$2 per foot for the first 30 feet of sidewalk
$1 per foot for the next 30 - 100 feet of sidewalk
50¢ per for the remaining feet of sidewalk
  • Residents
$1 per foot for the first 50 feet of sidewalk
50¢ per for the remaining feet of sidewalk

If you have any questions, please the Public Works Department at 952-939-1382 or the Police Department at 952-938-8885.
