Words such as: Caution, Warning, Dangerous, and Flammable, on the label of any product indicate that the product is potentially hazardous. These products, if not used and disposed of properly, can harm your health and the environment. Carefully read and follow all directions on product labels, and keep product in its original container.

Reduce

Buy only what you need, and look for the least toxic product available for your job. Always store products in their original containers and away from children and pets.

Reuse

You may know of someone or of an organization that can use certain leftover hazardous products, such as paint. However, before you give or share any hazardous product, make certain the recipient is aware of and understands the product, its use, and how to safely store and dispose of the product.

EXCEPTION - never give away pesticides (insect killer, rat or mouse poison, weed killer and similar products). These should be taken to a household hazardous waste disposal site.

Call Hennepin County at 612-348-3777 for more information on Hazardous Waste.
