Effective January 1, 2005 the rates for refuse pick-up increased to those shown in the table.
| Refuse Rate Increase | ||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Container Size | 1995 Rate | 2005 Rate | Monthly Increase | Weekly Increase | ||
| 30 | $11.00 | $13.20 | $ 2.20 | $ 0.55 | ||
| 60 | $13.25 | $15.90 | $ 2.65 | $ 0.66 | ||
| 90 | $14.45 | $17.25 | $ 2.80 | $ 0.70 | ||
The previous rates had remained stable since 1995 though the cost of managing the refuse program had not. Operating costs increased 7% between 1997 and 2005. While revenues for that same period increased by 12.7%, they did not kept up with the rising costs of refuse operations that include bulk collection, yard waste/leaf collection, brush collection, recycling, and disposal collections. The fund operated at a loss in four of those years. Staff continues to research ways to ensure the profitability of the refuse program while maintaining affordable rates.
Homeowners always have the option of changing the size of the refuse container they use. There is no cost to the homeowner for this change and can be done by calling Pat at 952-548-6332.
