For over 30 years, the Hopkins Police Reserves have assisted the police department in a variety of functions. They are a diverse group of individuals who are dedicated to the community of Hopkins. The unit donates over 5,000 hours of volunteer service to the city each year. Reserve officer assignments include assisting the Police officers on patrol, crime prevention, and community events, animal control and parking enforcement.
Reserve officers attend 40 hours of extensive training offered by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Department as well as ongoing training in First Aid/CPR, self-defense, traffic control and crisis intervention.
Each Reserve officer must donate a minimum of 10 hours per month.
Hopkins Police Reserves Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include but are not limited to individuals who:
- are at least 21 years of age;
- are a US citizen;
- have a valid Minnesota driver's license
- have a high school diploma or equivalent;
- pass a complete background check;
- pass an oral interview; and
- are in good physical health with weight proportional to height.
