Council Orders Public Hearing on Cable Franchise Application

A public hearing will be held on May 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm, or as soon thereafter as the matter may be heard, to consider an application received from CenturyLink for a cable communications franchise in Hopkins. All interested parties are invited to attend and voice their opinions. Written statements may be submitted at or before the public hearing.

Hopkins is served by Comcast Cable, 651-222-3333. The City of Hopkins controls the programming of Channel 16, the government access channel.

City Council meetings and Zoning and Planning Commission meetings can be seen live on Channel 16. Meetings are also replayed on the following days and times:

  • Monday & Wednesday - 7:00 pm
  • Thursday - 2:00 pm
  • Sunday - 1:00 pm

Community bulletin board

Channel 16 also serves as a community bulletin board. City meeting and event dates are publicized on this channel. Non-profit organizations can also publicize events of interest to the Hopkins community by e-mailing information to Jim Genellie.

Additional Channels

Educational Access Channel

In addition to the government channel, Comcast subscribers can view the educational access channel on Channel 14. Programming is produced by the six school districts in the commission’s service footprint area -- Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Richfield and Wayzata.

Public Access Channel

The public access channel is Channel 15. Any producer living in the five cities can submit content for the channel. Residents of Eden Prairie, Edina, Hopkins, Minnetonka and Richfield can sponsor programming produced by a non-resident.
