Press Release: Hopkins Police Seek Information on March 20 Arson

Hopkins, MN – The Hopkins Police Department responded to the report of a car fire during the early morning hours of Monday, March 20, in the 700 block of 11th Ave. S.

Surveillance video of the area showed a suspect approach a Ford Edge and break out a rear window. The suspect is next seen lighting an object on fire and tossing the flaming object into the vehicle. Within seconds, the interior of the vehicle ignites and the suspect flees the scene. Based on surveillance video footage, the suspect possibly suffered burns to his hands. The vehicle was declared a total loss.

This was a very dangerous act, which could have resulted in loss of life or much more property damage.

A clip of the video surveillance is available upon request. HPD will be offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
