Press Release Structure Fire at Jacob's Trading Company on Excelsior Boulevard

Hopkins, MN., September 9, 2016 – The Hopkins Fire Department was called to Jacob’s Trading Company, 8090 Excelsior Boulevard, at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, September 8, after a waterflow alarm (sprinklers) was activated.
The fire was controlled by sprinklers within the facility. Hopkins Fire Department did activate three alarms and received support from eight regional fire departments: Eden Prairie, Edina, Excelsior, Golden Valley, Minnetonka, Mound, Saint Louis Park, Shakopee and Hennepin County Ambulance Service. The initial call took approximately five hours to ensure the smoke was out of the warehouse, including the use of two air boats from Shakopee and Excelsior.

There were no injuries. Fire and smoke related damages are estimated to be in the millions.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown. The City will be working with the State Fire Marshall to identify the cause.
