Before conducting any excavation (this includes deck footings and fence posts) in your yard, the law requires that you call Gopher State One Call to have utility lines located in your yard. Brochures regarding the process are available at the Inspections Office.
Calls must be placed at least two business days before digging. The number to call is 651-454-0002 or 800-252-1166, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm.
When you call you must have the following information ready: your name, phone number, street address, dig location, nearest intersection, type of work, and start date and time. If you hire a professional excavator, they are responsible for contacting Gopher State One Call.
You should mark the digging area with white stakes or white spray paint otherwise the utility may mark your entire yard. You must not dig any closer than two feet from any utility markings.
Utilities will only locate services that they installed. You or a private contractor are responsible for locating such services as sprinklers, power lines to a garage, gas grill line, or invisible fencing.
