The following building inspections are required when any of the listed work is included in the project:

  1. Footing Inspection: To be completed after trenches are excavated, forms erected and reinforcing steel is in place. All property irons or survey stakes are to be visible. This inspection must be made before concrete is placed in the forms.
  2. Foundation Inspection: Poured concrete foundation requires two inspections.
    1. The first inspection to be completed after all forms are set and all reinforcing rod is in place.
    2. The second inspection also occurs after drain tile, damp proofing, foundation insulation and anchor bolts are installed and prior to backfilling.
  3. Electric Inspection: Rough-in and final to be done in accordance with the Minnesota State Electrical Code, contact Doug Torvund at 612-866-5895, 7:00 - 8:30 am.
  4. Plumbing Inspections: Rough-in and final to be completed as prescribed by Minnesota Plumbing code, Sec. 4715.2800 through 4715.2890, to include air tests of the plumbing drainage system and finished plumbing. Equipment, materials, power system and finished plumbing. Equipment, materials, power and labor necessary to accomplish the prescribed testing shall be furnished by the plumbing contractor.
  5. Heating - Rough-In, Gas Piping Finals: To be completed in accordance with Minnesota State Building Code, Sections SBC 7815,7905,8029,8030, and 8108. Test equipment shall be provided by the installer.
  6. Frame Inspection: To be completed after the rough-ins for HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical have passed inspection. All roofing, including shingles and flashing are applied and all framing, fire blocking, bracing, and sheathing are completed and all windows and doors installed. A separate wall sheathing inspection is available upon request.
  7. Fireplace Inspection: To be completed after the roof, all framing, fire blocking and bracing are in place and all pipes, chimneys and vents have been installed, before masonry is covered. When approved manufactured units are installed, after unit is installed and before work is covered.
  8. Insulation Inspection: To be completed after all insulation and vapor barriers are in place and before any work is covered.
  9. Sheetrock/Plaster: To be made after all sheetrock and/or plaster is in place and before any sheetrock joints or fasteners are taped or finished.
  10. Final Inspections: To be made after building is completed, and all previously noted deficiencies have been corrected. A Certificate of Occupancy, which is required before the building may be occupied or used, will be issued upon satisfactory completion of the final inspection of the building and all plumbing and mechanical work.

It shall be the responsibility of the owner or his/her representative to notify the Building Official at 952-548-6320, when the project is ready for each of the inspections listed above, providing notice sufficiently in advance so as to allow adequate time for the inspection to be made without causing unnecessary delays in the construction. A 24-HOUR NOTICE is normally considered adequate, and inspections will be made during normal working hours (Monday through Friday).
