Property Maintenance Inspections
The City of Hopkins inspects the exteriors of all properties in the spring and fall of each year to make sure that commercial, residential, and rental properties are meeting the City's minimum standards. Inspections are also conducted when the City receives a complaint about the condition of a property.
Inspections process
- Usually upon receiving a complaint, a City inspector identifies an area in need of correction at a property and notifies the owner. The owner is given a reasonable period of time to make corrections or repairs, depending on the nature of the activity.
- Usually a second notice is sent if the activity isn't corrected within the given time period.
- If the activity isn't corrected after the second time period expires, an Administrative Citation may be issued.
- The person responsible for the violation must either pay the scheduled fine or request an appeals hearing within fourteen days after receiving the citation.
