Opening in 1998, the Depot Coffee House was a four year collaborative effort of many local business people, service organizations, volunteers and students from the Hopkins School District 270. It took many hours for volunteers to reconstruct the 1902 railroad depot into a chemically free, safe, gathering place for youth.
Today both commuters and youth utilize the Depot. In the morning, commuters often stop for coffee and a muffin. The Depot is also a great place for your morning meeting. Every Friday night, youth flock to the Depot to hang out with friends and to listen to local bands.
The Depot is unique in that a Board of Directors, consisting of high school students, hold the Depot's fate. From its inception the Board of Directors have been the decision-makers. They have been involved in everything from licensing and inspections to buying appliances and hiring staff. All of the Depot's profits go to support programs for teens.
The Depot Coffee House is available for private parties and/or business meetings.
