Dog Licensing

Dogs six months old or over must be licensed with the City. A dog with a valid license from another jurisdiction may be kept at the City, for a period not exceeding three months. Read more about dog licensing or download an application.

File for Homestead Classification

New homeowners should apply for a homestead exemption for the homestead property tax credit. Homesteading means you own and live on your property. In nearly all instances, the closing company will provide you with homestead instructions as well as a copy of the documents needed. Documents required for homesteading:

  • copy of the Certificate of Real Estate Value
  • copy of the Deed used to convey the property to you (Warranty Deed, Contract for Deed, Personal Representative Deed)
  • Social Security numbers for all owners

For more information, visit our Homestead Information FAQ.

Garbage & Recycling Services

The City provides weekly collection services to all residents. Waste Management is contracted by the City to provide recycling services. Visit other areas of this site for more information on Garbage and Recycling.

Utilities

Set-up your utilities (gas, telephone, electricity, etc.) by contacting each company that provides service to you.

Property owners need to call the Utility Billing office at 952-548-6332 to schedule a water meter reading. If you are buying and/or moving into a property, the City will set up your utility account.

The owner of rental property is responsible for notifying the Utility Billing office when renters move in to the property. The owner of the property will be liable to the city for all bills accruing through the use of utility services whether used by the owner, renter/lessee, or other occupant.

Home Safety & Security

Make sure your new home has functioning smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Check the batteries in smoke detectors and replace them if they are old or weak. Test smoke detectors monthly, and make an escape plan from your home in case of a fire.

Update Licenses

Residents who move from within the state have 30 days to update their driver's licenses.
