House Painting Assistance

The Metro Paint-A-Thon, a program of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches, helps seniors and people with physical disabilities continue to live independently in their homes. In 2007, Paint-A-Thon volunteers painted 135 home exteriors for low-income clients, at no cost to the homeowner. If your house is in need of paint, but not major repair, visit the Paint-A-Thon website for more qualification guidelines or to fill out an application. Applications are due May 9, 2008 and painting usually takes place the first weekend of August.

A Minnesota nonprofit tenant advocacy organization that provides free legal, organizing, education and advocacy services so that tenants throughout Minnesota can solve their own rental housing problems.

The tenant hotline is staffed by three experienced housing attorneys and law student volunteers. Callers will get accurate information about rental housing laws and learn what they can do to enforce their rights as renters. There are no income restrictions; any Minnesota tenant (outside of Minneapolis and St Paul) may call and the service is free. Website also features several useful forms for tenants dealing with legal issues, links to all relevant statutes, and an email form for electronic responses. All calls and emails are confidential.
