Bulk Item Drop Off
When: October 4 & 5, 3–7 pm and
October 6, 9 am–4 pm
Where: 1414 7th St S (old landfill site)
Drop off is available for Hopkins refuse customers in the City service area. A valid Minnesota driver's license, Minnesota ID, or current paid utility bill must be shown to prove eligibility.
Guidelines
$20 fee for each recyclable appliance. Fees will not be collected the day of drop off but will be reflected on your utility bill. All other bulk items are free.
- Maximum 3 cubic yards (one pick-up truck load) per household.
- Residents must separate recyclable materials into the proper areas at the site. Construction materials, appliances, and metal materials will be separated and recycled.
- Small engines and lawn mowers must have wheels and fluids removed. Caps, drain plugs, and wheels must also be removed prior to taking them to the drop off site.
- Electronics and concrete products (with no iron) are accepted at the drop off site.

Bulk Pick Up
Bulk pick up is available on Thursdays for Hopkins refuse customers in the City service area. Residents must call 952-939-1382 by 2 pm on Wednesdays to schedule a Thursday pick up.
Cost: $25 per bulk item / $25 per ¾ cubic yard of loose volume material (All charges are subject to SCORE tax and Hennepin County Solid Waste Management Fee.)
- Material must fit into a rear load refuse truck or one-ton truck.
- Material must be easily transported by two people.
- Bag or box small items. Bags or boxes should not exceed 35 pounds.
- Maximum item size is 4' x 6'. Carpet must be cut into rolls 3’ or less in length and 1’ in
diameter. - Place items at your normal refuse collection site.
- Items must be placed at least 4’ away from your refuse & recycling container.
- Includes appliances, furniture, sofas, stuffed chairs, mattresses, box springs, carpet and
other miscellaneous household items. - Concrete pieces should not exceed a weight of 35 pounds.
- Construction materials should not exceed ¾ cubic yard with a maximum size of 4’ by 6’.

This 4-hour course is available for individuals at least 55-years old who have completed the 8-hour course. Lieutenant John Nagel of the Minnesota State Patrol leads lecture, films, and discussion. Upon course completion, participants are entitled to a 10%, 3-year discount on their auto insurance. Advance registration required. Frequent Card holders $15; Non Card holders $18.

Remember Your Permit For Driveway & Parking Lot Work
A reminder to Hopkins business owners and residents: a permit is required for driveway or parking lot construction or replacement (City Code 810.01). Requiring a permit enables the City to set construction standards, inspect work done within the right-of-way at the street connection, and ensure proper pavement restoration. Permit fees start at $40 for driveways and go up to $250 for large parking lots (over 50 parking spots). You can pick up a permit application at the City Hall between 8 am and 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, or print one online. Free Brush And Yard Waste Drop Off
The free brush and yard waste drop off site will remain open through December 1 (weather permitting) at 3100 Hopkins Crossroads (west side of Co Rd 73, approximately two blocks north of the Co Rd 5 intersection). Beginning November 1, the site will be open on Saturdays only.

Free Brush Pick Up
Free, one-day only, brush pick up is on Tuesday, Sept 11. Call 952-939-1382 between Tuesday, Sept 4 and Monday, Sept 10 (no later than 2 pm) to schedule the free pick up for Sept 11.
This will be the only free brush pick up this fall!
Mayor, Council Member, And School Board Positions On The Ballot In 2007 City Elections
On November 6, 2007, the residents of Hopkins will vote for the Mayor’s position and two Council Member positions. The Mayor’s position is a two year term. The Council Member positions are four year terms. All positions are at large positions.
Filing for these positions opened on Tuesday, August 28, 2007. The filing period will remain open until 4:30 pm on September 11, 2007.
At the same time, the residents of Hopkins will elect four school board members. Filing for the school board position was held in July.
If you have not already registered to vote, we encourage you to do so before the election. You can register anytime between now and 5:00 pm on October 16. The wait time on election day is shorter for those who are pre-registered.
Absentee ballots for the November election will be available on October 5, 2007.
