City of Rogers Public Works Facility (22350 South Diamond Lake, Rogers) - May 3-5, 9 am – 4 pm

Hopkins’ utilities crews have been finding paper towels, wipes, and other non-biodegradable products in the sewer system during routine maintenance checks throughout the City. These materials lead to sewer plug-ups that could affect you or your neighbor. Please remember that these products do not dissolve in the sewer system and should be disposed of in your garbage, not flushed down a toilet.
Hopkins Firefighters To Learn Animal First Aid
The Hopkins Fire Department plans to enroll its firefighters in animal rescue training. “We know how people feel about their pets and this is another way we can provide service to our residents,” said Fire Chief Dale Specken.
The firefighters will complete training through Basic Animal Rescue Training (BART), a non-profit organization run by volunteers in the veterinary profession. BART’s mission is to empower firefighters and other first responder personnel with the training, knowledge base, and equipment necessary to safely and effectively handle domestic animals encountered in emergency situations in order to help preserve human health, safety, and well-being. BART has trained and equipped over 1,200 EMS personnel in Minnesota since December of 2004.
BART teaches firefighters about restraint and handling of pets, horses, and livestock, as well as patient assessment, first aid, and CPR for companion animals. The EMS departments undergoing training receive an emergency medical kit that contains all the materials and supplies covered in the small animal course.
Basic Animal Rescue Training is supported entirely by charitable donations and grants. Due to the strong growth of the program and the challenge of raising sufficient funds to support this growth, BART encourages the EMS departments to help raise the funds to support their training. BART is a non-profit organization whose 501(c)(3) status is pending, and donations are expected to be tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
The Hopkins Fire Department will be raising money to cover the cost of this class. The class costs approximately $3,500, which includes the training of all personnel and a medical kit supplied by BART. If you would be interested in donating to defer the cost of this course, please contact Fire Chief Dale Specken. For more information on the BART organization, visit www.basicanimalrescuetraining.org.
