Curbside Bulk Pick Up
Curbside bulk pick up is available on Thursdays for Hopkins refuse customers in the City service area. Residents must call 952-939-1382 by 2:00 pm on Wednesday to schedule a Thursday pick up.
Cost: $25.00 per bulk item / $25.00 per ¾ cubic yard of loose volume material (All charges are subject to SCORE tax and Hennepin County Solid Waste Management Fee.)
- Material must fit into a rear load refuse truck or one-ton truck.
- Material must be easily transported by two people.
- Bag or box small items. Bags or boxes should not exceed 35 pounds.
- Maximum item size is 4'x6'. Carpet must be cut into rolls 3' or less in length and 1' in diameter.
- Place items at normal refuse collection site.
- Items must be placed at least 4 feet away from your refuse & recycling container.
- Includes appliances, furniture, sofas, stuffed chairs, mattresses, box springs, and carpet.
- Concrete pieces should not exceed a weight of 35 pounds.
- Construction materials should not exceed ¾ cubic yard with a maximum of 4' by 6'

Bulk Item Drop Off
When: October 5 & 6, 3:00–7:00 pm and October 7, 9:00 am–4:00 pm
Where: 1414 7th St S (old landfill site)
Drop off is available for Hopkins refuse customers in the City service area. A valid Minnesota Driver's License, Minnesota ID or current paid utility bill must be shown to prove residency.
- $20 fee for each recyclable appliance. Fees will not be collected the day of drop off. Fees will be reflected on your utility bill. All other bulk items are free.
- Maximum 3 cubic yards (one pick-up truck load) per household.
- Residents must separate recyclable materials into the proper areas at the site.
- Most of the lumber, appliances, and metal materials will be separated and recycled.
- Small engines, lawn mowers, must have wheels and fluids removed. Caps, drain plugs and wheels must also be removed prior to taking them to the drop off site.
- Electronics and concrete products (with no iron) are accepted at the drop off site.
Hazardous wastes must be taken to the Hennepin County Hazardous Waste Drop Off Sites.

Free Brush & Yard Waste Drop Off
Free brush and yard waste drop off is currently available through December 2 (weather permitting) at the brush/yard waste drop off site at 3100 Hopkins Crossroads (west side of Co Rd 73, approximately two blocks north of the Co Rd 5 intersection).

There will be free curbside brush pick up on Tuesday, September 12. This will be the only free pick-up this fall. Call 952-939-1382 by 2 pm September 11 to schedule your pick up.
Former Minnesota Governor to speak at Hopkins Activity Center
Al Quie, governor of Minnesota between 1979 and 1983, will be speaking on September 25 at 11:30 am at the Hopkins Activity Center. Quie will show slides and discuss his book, Riding the Divide, which chronicles his 3,000-mile ride, by horseback, along the Continental Divide. He will also tell about his relationships with people, reminisce about his 26 years in public office, and share about his faith. There will be an opportunity for questions, and also a chance for him to autograph and personalize copies of his book. Pre-register by Thursday, September 21. Cost: $3, includes a bag lunch. The City of Hopkins will again honor property owners, individuals, and business owners whose pride shines through their property. The Community Image Award recognizes those people who have made significant improvements to their property; including landscaping, accessibility improvements, lighting, signs, or exterior improvements. The award also honors those who have demonstrated continued, superior maintenance of their property. The award has three categories:
- Commercial, industrial or office
- Multi-family residential
- Single family residential
If you would like to nominate someone for this award, please complete a nomination form and return it by September 29, to Economic Development, City of Hopkins, 1010 1st St S, Hopkins, MN 55343. Nomination forms are also available at City Hall, online, or by calling 952-548-6343.
Recycling collection is September 5–8, September 18–21, and October 2 –5
Refuse collection is September 5–8, 11–14, 18–21, 25–28, and October 2 –5.
Refuse and recycling pick ups are delayed by one day the week of September 4 due to Labor Day.![]()
