Sanitary Sewer Cleaning Program
The Hopkins Utility Division has a sanitary sewer-cleaning program that includes cleaning the sanitary sewers on a three-year revolving schedule. The area being cleaned this year is all streets and avenues south of Excelsior Boulevard and between Meadowbrook Road and Shady Oak Road.
A sanitary sewer jet-cleaning machine uses high-pressure water to clean the sanitary sewer. This high water pressure may affect your home's sanitary sewer plumbing. You may experience gurgling or bubbling water in the toilet bowl or you may smell sewer gas from your basement floor drains. If this does occur, flush your toilet and pour water into your floor drains. This does not damage your sewer system. The water that comes out is the water that is normally in the home's system (drain traps), not the water from the sanitary sewer in the street.
If you experience any problems with your sanitary sewer, please call the City first before you hire a private sewer repair company. The City will come out and check the sanitary sewer in the street and determine the location of the obstruction in the sanitary sewer. If the problem is in our system, we will correct it as soon as we can and restore the proper operation of the sanitary sewer. Please contact the Utility Division at 952-939-1382 during normal working hours (7:30 am–3:00 pm) Monday through Friday. For emergency situations after normal working hours or on weekends and holidays call the Police Department at 952-938-8885.
Win One Month Free Water Service
Hassle free payment, bills paid on time, no late fees, on vacation, too busy to process your monthly bills. These are only a few of the reasons to sign up for autoPAY, a free auto payment of your City utility bill, and be eligible to win one free month of water service. The City of Hopkins offers automatic payment of your utility bill that will make paying your utility bill a breeze. Your utility bill will be paid on the due date with no additional charge to you.
Many of you are taking advantage of your bank or a third party bill pay system. Are you aware those parties issue the City of Hopkins a check and those payments are not always received on time? This may result in late fees on your utility bill. Sign up for autoPAY and never again have a late fee because the bank or third party check was not received by the due date.
Sign up by August 15, 2005 and be eligible to win one month's free water service during the month of September. Everyone who signs up along with those of you already signed up will be eligible for the drawing.
The form to sign up can be found on the City Web site. Download the form and send it in to begin taking advantage of automatic payment of your utility bill. Additional information and frequently asked questions regarding auto pay are addressed on the Web site. The form for auto pay is also available by calling City Hall.
