County Rd 73/5 Intersection Will Close This Month
Watch For Advance Signs Announcing Closure Date
Hennepin County and Park Construction have announced that the Hopkins Crossroads (Co Rd 73) - Minnetonka Blvd (Co Rd 5) intersection will close for reconstruction starting mid-April. There could be delays if overhead power lines are not relocated before then. Watch for signs along the approaching roads announcing the upcoming closure date. The signed detour route will be Hwy 7, Shady Oak Rd, Plymouth Rd, Cedar Lake Rd, and Hwy 169. The intersection is expected to remain closed until fall 2005.
The brush and yard waste drop-off site at 3100 Hopkins Crossroads (see detour map) will be open April 30 through November 19 on Wednesdays (2:00–7:00 pm) and Saturdays (9:00 am–3:00 pm). Look for additional information in the May Highlights.
Spring Is Just Around The Corner And So Is The Bike Riding Season!
April is the time to get the bikes out, tune them up and make sure everything is working properly. May is Bike Safety Month and one of the most important ways to ride a bicycle safely is to wear a helmet. Bicycle helmets reduce the incidence of serious head and facial injuries by up to 85%.
The Hopkins Police Department will be holding its 7th Annual Bike Helmet Sale on Saturday, May 7, from 9:00 am–4:00 pm in the Raspberry Room at City Hall. The cost of the bike helmet is $8.50 and the cost of the multi-sport helmet is $12.00 (cash or check only). All helmets will be individually fitted before purchase.
If you are a bicyclist, it's also important to know that in the City of Hopkins, all bicycles are required to be licensed. You may purchase a Minnesota state 3-year bicycle license for $10 at the Bike Helmet sale or at the Hopkins Police Department, Monday–Friday from 8:00 am–4:00 pm. Please bring the bike's model, brand name, serial number, and number of speeds with you for the license application.
Remember…you're in the driver's seat when you're on your bike! You're subject to the same "rules of the road" and many of the same laws as automobile drivers. Be a responsible traffic participant.
