The Hopkins Human Rights Commission was established in 1994. Its primary purpose is to develop a Human Rights Program for the City of Hopkins, and to advise the Hopkins City Council on human rights issues, that concern and affect the well being of the Hopkins community.

The Commission meets on the first Monday of the month at Hopkins City Hall. Call Jim Genellie at 952-548-6303 for more information about the meetings.

Mission

To foster a community that embraces diversity, mutual respect, and principles of equal opportunity. The Commission will take a forthright stance against discrimination and prejudice of all kinds to ensure the fair treatment of all Hopkins residents.

Objectives

  • Create a unified community with the City of Hopkins, the school district, local businesses, faith communities and other neighborhood and community organizations which welcomes and respects people of all ages, genders, races and creeds
  • Develop educational programs
  • Help people identify their own responsibilities in bridging differences
  • Address discrimination issues within the community
  • Educate the Hopkins community on human rights and the Human Rights Commission. Commissioners are available to speak with individuals or groups to provide information on the City's human rights efforts or to answer questions and address concerns
  • Recognize individuals, non-profit organizations and community businesses that have organized activities or programs that have embraced diversity, mutual respect and principles of equal opportunity and fair treatment
