City Budget Process
The following is the typical calendar for determining the budget for the following year.
May
- City Manager meets with City Council to set parameters and goals for next year's budget
June
- Budget worksheets are distributed to departments, completed and returned to finance department
July
- Finance reviews and compiles budget summary
- City Manager & Finance meet with departments to review budgets
August
- City Council work sessions to review budgets
September
- City Council adopts preliminary levy and budget
- Proposed budget and levy certified to Hennepin County
September—November
- Special revenue and enterprise budgets presented to City Council for review and approval
December
- Truth in Taxation public hearing
- Final budget approval and tax levy certification
- Final levy certification to Hennepin County
