Zoning & Planning Commission Minutes

September 30, 2008

A regular meeting of the Hopkins Zoning and Planning Commission was held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Hopkins City Hall.

Present were Commission Members Tom Jenny, Patrick Beddor, Kyle Skiermont, Kathy Newcomb and Bob Hatlestad.  Commissioners Kate Reilly and Linda Flynn were absent.

Also present was staff member Nancy Anderson.

Call to Order

Mr. Skiermont called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

Approval of Minutes

Mr. Hatlestad moved and Mr. Jenny seconded the motion to approve the minutes of the August 26, 2008, regular meeting.  The motion was approved unanimously. 

Item: Multi Family Sites

This past summer the City Council and the Planning Commission reviewed several multi-family sites in the City. Six sites were identified to be considered for a change in the  Comprehensive Plan designation.

  • 41 - 8th Avenue North – keep Low Density Residential
  • Town Terrace Apartments – The discussion at the joint meeting focused around changing the site to mixed use.  The Commission discussed this use and a high density residential use.  Mr. Jenny suggested that a multi-family tower would be a better use of the site.
  • Apartments on 12th and 13th Avenues South – The new Comprehensive Plan designation is high density residential.The discussion at the joint meeting focused on a medium density residential. The Commission concurred with the medium density residential that was discussed at the joint meeting.

Adjourn

Mr. Skiermont moved and Mr. Hatlestad seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting.    The motion was approved unanimously.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
