Take more than a walk in the park: volunteer to give back to Hopkins.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3! Call or email the Hopkins Activity Center to volunteer for the Adopt-A-Park project on one the above dates.
The Hopkins Activity Center has adopted Clock Tower Plaza, 9th Ave S & Mainstreet and Downtown Park, 40-9th Ave S. Demonstrate community pride and help us make a positive impression in our community by picking up litter and noting needed repairs. The Hopkins Park Department will provide litter bags and remove all collected waste afterwards.
Work on an ongoing fundraising project for the Hopkins Activity Center.
Teach a class designed for the beginning PC user to senior adults.
Help with set-up, serving, and clean-up at special events.
Knit or crochet hats, mittens, or scarves to be given to various local organizations that distribute to local neighbors in need.
Instruct older adults at the Hopkins Activity Center about Pinterest: A pinboard-style photo sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, hobbies, and more. Students learn how to set up and manage a Pinterest account, browse other pinboards for inspiration and how to “re-pin” images to their own account or 'like' photos. Computer Lab with 4 PC’s, internet & Wi-Fi available for teaching class. Days and times flexible.
Help older adult students understand Twitter: Twitter allows you to connect with people, share links, resources and information. Twitter is an easy way to discover the latest news related to subjects you care about. Students will learn how to set up an account, how to find people to follow, how to create Tweets and learn how to use the features of Twitter such as Retweets, @ mentions and hashtags. Computer Lab with 4 PC’s, internet & Wi-Fi available for teaching class. Days and times flexible.
The Tablet Lab is designed for older adult tablet users (iPad, Kindle or Nook) to drop in during the designated hours or at a set appointment time. Help older adult students understand Instagram: an online mobile photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, and share them on a variety of social networking platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. Teach students how to download the app, set up an account, set privacy settings and how to follow friends and post photos and videos. Students need to bring their iPhone. Computer Lab with 4 PC’s, internet & Wi-Fi available for teaching class. Days and times flexible.
Help older adult students understand Facebook: a social networking service that enables its users to share stories, pictures and videos, host events, etc. Teach students how to set up an account, set privacy settings and how to follow friends, add friends, and post photos and videos, etc. Computer Lab with 4 PC’s, internet & Wi-Fi available for teaching class. The Activity Center also collects the following items and distributes them to area organizations:
Consider remembering the Hopkins Activity Center when making a donation or updating a will. Donations made be made in memory of a loved one or friend, given in honor of a special celebration or bequeathed in a will. All contributions will be placed in Gifts To Share or designated to a specific program.
