Salon 300: Minnesota State Fair Overflow Show
The Fine Arts department of the Minnesota State Fair presents an annual art exhibition that is the result of a juried cometition. Participation is open to all living residents of Minnesota. Online registration is required. See www.mnstatefair.org for information on how to register and compete for the State Fair show.
Salon 300, held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, is open to artists who submitted work to the State Fair, but whose work was not chosen to be in the Fair's exhibition.
Salon 300 Eligibility
- You submitted an art work to the 2009 Minnesota State Fair art competition and your work was not selected for exhibition.
- You are among the first 450 artists to pick up a Salon 300 entry form at the State Fair at the time you pick up your unselected work. Only original forms from the Fair will be accepted - no photocopies. Ask a State Fair volunteer for a form if you do not see them. When the forms run out, eligibility for Salon 300 closes.
Process
- Pick up your Salon 300 entry form at the Fair when you pick up your work. Read and complete the form.
- Deliver your artwork with the entry form to the Hopkins Center for the Arts during the period of August 14-17. Hours: noon-8pm Friday, August 14. 10am-8pm Saturday, August 15. noon-5pm Sunday, August 16. 10am-noon Monday, August 17. There are no exceptions to these times.
- Make sure your piece is ready to install. For wall-mounted pieces this means you must reattach the hanging hardware. A horizontal wire is recommended as it allows us to secure the piece to the wall.
- Be our guest at the opening reception on Saturday, August 22, 6-8 pm, and meet fellow artists.
- Participating artists MUST pick up their work at the close of Salon 300 during the period of September 8-9, noon - 8 pm. ( Center is closed Monday, September 7 for Labor Day)
We do not make any exceptions to the delivery dates and times and we will not accept work without an entry form. A storage fee of $5 per day will be charged for work not picked up during the scheduled dates and times. No responsibility for loss of or damage to artwork not picked up on time is assumed by the Hopkins Center for the Arts or the City of Hopkins.
Criteria for Artwork
- Work must remain in the show until it closes.
- The maximum dimensions for wall-mounted work is 4'x4'. Wall-mounted work may not weigh over 20 pounds.
- Maxmum dimensions for 3D work (sculpture, glass, ceramics, etc.) are 36" in any direction. One person must be able to lift work.
- Work must not have been exhibited previously at the Hopkins Center for the Arts, including but not limited to prior Salon 300 exhibitions.
- HCA reserves the right not to accept work that either poses a potential hazard to patrons or that is deemed extremely fragile or unstable in nature.
- HCA reserves the right to restrict placement of some art work within the facility. Please note that some exhibition areas receive direct sunlight; if this is a concern, please do not submit your work.
- All work must be delivered ready for presentation in a professional manner. For wall-mounted artwork, this means the piece must be framed unless clearly intended to be displayed without a frame and must include hanging hardware. Defective pieces (ex. damaged frame, work loose in frame, dirty mat, cracked glass, obvious repairs) will not be accepted.
All reasonable care will be taken in handling artwork but no responsibility is assumed by the Hopkins Center for the Arts for loss or damage of any kind, however caused. Placement of art within the exhibition is determined solely by Hopkins Center for the Arts.
Please make sure your full name, phone number or email, & address are on your piece. You may use the tag from the State Fair.
