music at the center 2008 - 2009
Saturday, July 18, 2009, 7:30pm
Two-time GRAMMY award-winner Rita Coolidge makes her first appearance at Hopkins Center for the Arts on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at 7:30pm. Her songs have topped the charts since the 1970's—"(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher & Higher," "The Way You Do the Things You Do," "One Fine Day." A versatile singer blessed with a clear, pure voice, Rita Coolidge has made her mark in rock, pop, R&B, country and folk and most recently has released her first jazz album, And So Is Love, a collection of well-loved jazz standards on the Concord label including "Cry Me a River," "Fever," and "More Than You Know." "We have a relationship with music," Ms. Coolidge says, "and it represents our relationship with ourselves and with other people. The importance of family is intertwined with our spiritual path. In my nation, the Cherokee nation, women are revered as they age. I am in the middle of the process, and I'm trying to embrace it with grace and dignity. I am making a conscious effort to give back everything I have learned." Hopkins Center for the Arts is proud to present "An Evening with Rita Coolidge."
