Intermediate Poetry: From Self to Self-Published
with Linda Back McKay
Monday - Friday, July 14 -18 (5-day intensive), 1:30 -5:00 pm
Summer is the time to set aside a week to realize your dream of having a book published. The focus of the first half of the week will be on generating new work and fine-tuning our best, most publishable poems. You'll be given a variety of "jump-start" writing activities connected to a packet of model poems. During the second half of the week we will finalize, theme, and sequence our developing manuscripts, considering visuals, production options, marketing ideas, and more. Students will work together in large and small groups and will have the opportunity to meet with the instructor privately. At the end of the week each student will have a chapbook ready to print. Bring pen, paper or laptop, and your collection of poems- at whatever stage of completeness- to the first class. And, bring one of the poems you're working on and 13 copies if you'd like class input. Limit 13 students.
