Pets add companionship, loyalty, pleasure and sheer fun to your life. Pet owners should realize that with every right goes a corresponding duty. Your dog needs a license. Licenses are inexpensive, easy to get and even good for your dog. Should your dog be lost, a City license helps to locate the owners. A license also ensures that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies.

A dog should be licensed as soon as it is six months old. A dog with a valid license from another jurisdiction may be kept at the City, for a period not exceeding three months. License applications are available at City Hall. Proof of spaying or neutering, a rabies tag number and an expiration date of a rabies tag must be shown before a license is issued. Hopkins City Code (Section 925) limits households to two dogs over the age of six months.
